Women's Health in BS3
Women’s bodies go through many physical and hormonal changes throughout life, from menstruation and fertility, through pregnancy and postnatal recovery, to perimenopause and menopause. These changes can influence the musculoskeletal system, pelvic health and overall wellbeing.
I provide specialist women’s health osteopathy in Bedminster, South Bristol (BS3), supporting women with a range of pelvic, hormonal and musculoskeletal concerns. My work includes supporting patients with pregnancy-related pain, postnatal recovery, pelvic health conditions such as endometriosis, pelvic organ prolapse, incontinence, chronic pelvic pain and painful intercourse, as well as the physical effects of hormonal changes during menstrual cycles, perimenopause and menopause.
Women’s Health Osteopathy in Bristol
Women experience unique physical and musculoskeletal changes throughout their lives. Hormonal changes, pregnancy, childbirth, menstrual cycles, perimenopause and menopause can all influence how the body moves, adapts and responds to stress or injury.
At my clinic in Bedminster, BS3, I provide specialist women’s health osteopathy for patients across South Bristol, supporting women through different life stages with compassionate, evidence-informed care.
I hold postgraduate training in women’s health and pelvic health osteopathy, and continue to undertake further professional education in this area. Alongside my osteopathic practice, I also bring 18 years of experience working with women and families as a therapist, counsellor and doula, which informs a deeply supportive and holistic approach to care.
Osteopathy focuses on how the muscles, joints, connective tissues, organs and nervous system work together to support health and movement. When the body is under stress, adapting to hormonal shifts, or recovering from pregnancy or pelvic conditions, areas of tension or imbalance can develop.
Through gentle hands-on treatment, movement assessment and personalised rehabilitation, osteopathy aims to improve the way the body moves and functions. Treatment may help reduce muscular tension, support joint mobility, improve circulation and encourage the body’s natural ability to recover and adapt.
My approach combines manual osteopathic treatment, visceral osteopathy, exercise rehabilitation, pain education and lifestyle support, helping women feel stronger, more confident and better supported in their bodies.
Conditions Osteopathy May Support
I provide specialist osteopathic care for a range of women’s health and pelvic health conditions, including:
-
Pregnancy-related back pain and pelvic girdle pain
-
Postnatal recovery and rehabilitation
-
Pelvic health conditions such as endometriosis, adenomyosis, pelvic organ prolapse, urinary or faecal incontinence, chronic pelvic pain, vaginismus, dyspareunia (painful sex), vulvodynia, IBS and pelvic inflammatory disease
-
Hormonal and chronic pain conditions
-
Persistent lower back, hip or sacroiliac joint pain
-
Exercise rehabilitation following pregnancy and birth
Where appropriate, osteopathy can support earlier recognition and referral for further investigation, helping patients access appropriate medical pathways for conditions such as endometriosis or pelvic organ prolapse, including support around pessary care and pelvic health management.
Visceral Osteopathy and Hormonal Cycles
Visceral osteopathy focuses on the gentle treatment of the organs and connective tissues within the abdomen and pelvis.
During menstrual cycles, perimenopause and menopause, hormonal fluctuations can influence circulation, tissue sensitivity, digestive function and pelvic tension. Visceral osteopathic techniques may help support:
-
pelvic mobility and circulation
-
digestive comfort
-
reduced abdominal and pelvic tension
-
improved nervous system regulation
This approach can be particularly supportive for women experiencing cyclical pain, pelvic discomfort or hormonal changes.
Pelvic Health Assessment and Internal Work
For some pelvic health conditions, internal pelvic floor assessment and treatment may be appropriate and beneficial. This is always discussed fully beforehand and only performed with clear consent.
Internal treatment may help support:
-
pelvic floor muscle coordination
-
prolapse management
-
pelvic pain conditions
-
bladder and bowel symptoms
Your comfort, autonomy and safety are always prioritised, and treatment will only proceed if you feel fully comfortable.
Trauma-Informed and Supportive Care
Women’s health care must feel safe, respectful and collaborative.
My practice is trauma-informed, meaning that your comfort, consent and autonomy are prioritised throughout treatment. Every step is explained clearly, and you remain in control of the pace and type of treatment provided.
Many women seeking support for pelvic or chronic pain conditions have had long journeys through healthcare systems. My aim is to create a safe, supportive environment where you feel heard, respected and understood.
Working with Other Women’s Health Practitioners
Women’s health often benefits from collaborative care.
I regularly work alongside and refer to other experienced practitioners when appropriate, including:
-
pelvic health physiotherapists
-
acupuncturists
-
nutrition therapists
-
GPs and specialist consultants
This integrated approach ensures patients receive well-rounded and supportive care, particularly for complex or long-standing conditions.
Exercise Rehabilitation and Movement Support
Movement plays an important role in recovery and long-term wellbeing.
Treatment may include:
-
pelvic floor and deep core rehabilitation
-
breathing and pressure management
-
gentle mobility and strengthening exercises
-
guidance on returning to running, swimming or other exercise
-
postural and movement advice for daily life
This integrated approach helps support both short-term symptom relief and long-term resilience.
Postnatal Assessment – Mummy MOT
A Mummy MOT is a specialist postnatal assessment designed to support recovery following both vaginal and caesarean births.
This appointment includes a detailed assessment of:
-
posture and spinal alignment
-
abdominal muscle recovery
-
pelvic floor function
-
movement patterns and functional strength
Following the assessment, you will receive personalised advice, gentle exercises and treatment to support healing and help you safely return to your postnatal goals, exercise and daily activities.
Many women choose to have a Mummy MOT between 6 weeks and 12 months post-birth, although support can be helpful at any stage of recovery.
